WHAT WE DO

 

 

 

We are a not-for-profit charity founded and managed by women since the early 1990s, based in Barking. We are a non-religious, non-political organisation open to all in the community who seek our help.

 

Today, our core activities now include the provision of FREE information, advice and support to ALL women and their families from ALL communities who live, work or study in the Boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge.

 

Through the continued commitment and hard work of the volunteers and staff, B & D Somali Women’s Association has continued to help over 500 people a year. Over the last 20 years more than 7,000 women have received our support, help, training and advice.

OUR GOAL

 

Our objective is to improve the quality of life for women and their families and to promote community cohesion and integration to wider society in Barking & Dagenham and surrounding boroughs.

 

We provide practical, social, educational and community support to all Women including carers, and women with mental health issues.

COMMUNITY WELLNESS CAFE

& IT'S HUB

 

The Wellness Café provides safe, relaxing and welcoming space for women to meet, support each other and access services.

Our services offer practical and emotional support to women and their families, especailly lone parents, Carers and women with disabilites.

The IT hub provides resources for women and onine learning.

 

SOCIAL AND SUPPORT GROUP FOR WOMEN

 

The Wellness Café promotes helath and wellbeing, providing practical support with fun activites.

FGM

PROJECTS

 

Female Genital Mutilation is a cultural harmful practice which is child abuse and therefore is against the law in the United Kingdom and many countries around the globe. The project provides safe space for women to come together to support one another and work together to end FGM practice,

 

 

EMPOWERING YOUNG PEOPLE TO #ENDFGM

 

We provide practical support for women and girls to protect themselves, FGM prevention program and survivors support. In relation to the Wellbeing Project, we run an Anti FGM summer Campaign to reduce the risk.

EXCEL

WOMEN'S CENTRE

Excel Women's Centre CIC is a resource centre with an open door policy and provides support to all women and families residing in Barking & Dagenham and surrounding boroughs

 

 

 

EMPOWERING & ENABLING WOMEN TO EXCEL

 

The Centre provides much needed support in areas of information, Advice and guidance, Training and Skills, volunteering, placement and work club, Social activities for women and support to increase self-confidence and particiaption within our multicultural society.
